Frequently Asked Questions
When and where do you rehearse? We rehearse from September through May preparing for concerts held throughout the year. Regular rehearsals are held Mondays from 7:00-9:30 pm at the Davis Community Church Choir Room. Our first rehearsal in September is the Monday after Labor Day. In January, the 2nd Monday after New Year’s Day.
When and where will we find out the schedule for the year? The schedule is planned each summer. Once the schedule is confirmed, you will receive an email. You will also be informed at the first rehearsal in September and January.
Who chooses the repertoire?
When will we find out the repertoire for the year?
Can we have any input?
The Artistic Director chooses the repertoire for each season. You are always welcome to suggest music. The repertoire for the upcoming concert is presented at the beginning of each semester.
What are the costs involved with joining?
All singers are asked to pay dues of $50/semester, with two semesters a year. A scholarship fund has been established for singers who have difficulty paying the dues. We also expect participation in our annual citrus sale; we ask that members sell 5 boxes of fruit. For concerts, we ask that you put your music in a black folder, which you will provide. Sometimes, we ask you to purchase a score.
Do I have to buy my concert attire?
There is formal concert dress for this ensemble. Men are required to wear a black tuxedo for the concert. You may rent or purchase one. Some men choose to buy the pieces of a tuxedo separately (shirt, tie and suit) to save money. Women must wear concert black.
Has the Chorale changed its name?
The Davis Community Chorale formally incorporated and received tax-exempt status in 2011, officially changing its name from the Davis Chorale at that time. However, we continue to use Davis Chorale as our name in everyday usage because the name has a history recognized by the community.
